Simon is a chartered accountant with an MBA from Manchester Business School. Despite spending over 20 years in finance director roles with G4S and fair trade pioneer Traidcraft, Simon would still define himself as a business generalist.
“Having worked for overseas subsidiaries in Kenya and Indonesia, I always found myself taking on responsibility for much more than financial performance,” he says. “My wide ranging expertise makes me an asset to SME owners who are looking to move their business to the next level. I have a strong financial focus, but am experienced across the board.”
Simon details amongst his internationally acquired skill set, expertise in general management (including a role as interim managing director of Securicor Kenya), company secretarial work, HR, IT, supply chain management, internal audit, property management, acquisitions and mergers and fleet management.
“Working across both the commercial and not-for-profit sectors has shown me that charities, schools and other non-profit making organisations of all kinds need to operate more like businesses,” he said. “The same kind of strategic review, forward planning and reporting can help them to grow and thrive in just the same way as an SME.”
