About John Pomeroy
John is the Business Doctor for Cornwall, a place he knows and loves and where he has made his home.
John joined Business Doctors precisely because they are a support network of experienced business people, passionate about sharing skills and experiences and offering ‘hands-on’ support to business owners so that they can tackle specific challenges or achieve aspirations for growth. Whilst consultative in approach, John felt that Business Doctors differ significantly from traditional consultants. Business Doctors pride themselves on gaining a deep understanding of individual businesses, enabling them to work with owners across all aspects, providing practical advice, guidance and mentoring every step of the way. Prior to joining Business Doctors, John gained experience in both private and public companies across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, consistently growing organisations which varied in size from 10 to 1,000 employees.

In January this year I had a chat with John at a networking meeting. We started talking about where my business was going as I was super busy, what I wanted to achieve long term as well as short term. Well, that chat moved onto a discovery meeting and realised I needed support in providing a detailed business plan as it became apparent. I was stuck. Business was great! We were going from strength to strength with many amazing clients, but it was not exactly how I wanted my life to be with my business. I was working 12 hour plus days, and weekends. This was not in my plan and I needed some help! So, we sat down, and I had to answer some questions honestly. Some more difficult when looking at yourself as well as your own business, to find out what I needed as a business owner. We worked through the process of what I wanted CTCC Solutions to grow into, really getting into the details of everything. We started on the growth plan, employed staff, gained clients. Amazing to have the focus, clarity and a plan to move CTCC forward. We were so excited. Then Covid19 hit and everything changed, everything! And for so many people. John was such a reassuring factor during this time. Providing an emergency review to see how this will affect the business and our lives. Having meetings over zoom, and then deciding to continue with the original plan (slightly tweaked). Taking on a member of staff and growing, even in these challenging times. I felt and feel reassured that we can do this because of the advice and reassurance that John has given us. John has been a coach, mentor, business advisor and we are so proud to be working with him. We met John Pomeroy at an FSB ‘Preparing to sell your business” conference. Had he been a preacher and we’d been in church it would have felt if God was speaking directly to us! His insight into our small business experience was very reassuring. I'm just celebrating my first year of having been self-employed and wanted to say thank you so much to John for helping me out with the business strategy. I've gone from two memory cafes to 15 with another 15-potential waiting in the wings. Meeting John Pomeroy at a Cornish Partnerships meeting in Hayle was hugely serendipitous and revolutionary for us at Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust (CSGRT). A multi award winning marine conservation charity, CSGRT had become a victim of its own success. Funding for rapid expansion was desperately needed to create capacity to collate records from 350 volunteers, alongside delivering a diverse range of events and inputting research into public consultations for statutory agencies. In addition to a lack of funding, CSGRT needed guidance to crystallise and deliver our vision for seals and people, as well as a systematic plan for its delivery. Listening to John gave us hope and strategy and after a short initial conversation, John offered to meet me for free consultation. We haven’t looked back. His open, friendly and interested approach, excellent listening skills and genuine desire to meaningfully help us was clear from the outset. John has given us direction, clarity, defined roles and a working business plan allowing us to successfully smash our 2019 funding targets. He brings out the best in us and helps us to discover solutions we didn’t know we knew! That is his skill, channelling and harnessing our expertise through his business filters to create a clear and effective way forward. We now have four 3.4 paid rangers and John (who we have also funded) and have a bright and optimistic view of the charity’s future, enabling us to help seals more effectively forever! John is a superb business mentor with whom it is a pleasure and honour to work. We cannot recommend him highly enough.
